Very Kind and Helpful!
When seeking landscape design services in Utah, it’s important to consider key aspects of the company you work with. A good landscape design company should be able to offer consultation, full design, plant selection, and have a thorough understanding of the soil types, water sources, as well as weather and drought conditions unique to the Salt Lake Valley. Implementing drought-tolerant designs and effective garden planning can transform your outdoor space into a sustainable and beautiful environment.
Landscape consultation is the first step in creating a custom outdoor space. Professionals from our landscape design team provide valuable insights into the best practices that suit Utah’s unique climate and terrain. During the consultation, you discuss your vision, budget, and preferences, allowing for personalized landscape planning. Our team will help you understand what elements you can realistically achieve, ensuring that the final design aligns with your expectations and Utah’s environmental conditions.
Choosing the right plants is crucial for a thriving landscape in Utah. Experts at Glover Nursery can recommend native and adaptive species that flourish in Utah’s climate. Considerations include seasonal color changes, plant height, and water requirements. Proper plant selection not only enhances the beauty of your garden but also promotes sustainable landscaping practices. Incorporating a mix of perennials, ground cover, shrubs, and trees will ensure year-round interest and ecological harmony.
An often overlooked benefit of working with a landscape designer associated with a nursery, like Glover Nursery, is that our team is extensively involved with the current status of inventory. Why is this a benefit? Rather than giving you a list of hard to find plants which you may never be able to track down, they will give you plants which are readily available at your local garden center. Knowing the inventory makes the entire process smoother for that critical stage: implementation. Additionally, you can feel safe knowing that the plants come from the best growers and are cared for by a knowledgeable horticulture team who make sure our material is healthy and free of infestations and/or disease.
Garden planning is essential for creating a cohesive and functional outdoor space. At Glover Nursery, we’ve designed a variety of garden types including traditional gardens, vegetable plots, and themed gardens like butterfly or sensory gardens. Effective planning ensures proper plant placement, optimal sunlight exposure, and efficient irrigation systems. This careful approach maximizes the aesthetic and practical benefits of your garden, tailored to your personal preferences and Utah’s growing conditions.
Understanding Utah’s soil types is fundamental to successful landscaping. Soil types in Utah range from sandy, to loamy, to clay, each with different water retention abilities and nutrient properties. Our landscape designers assess soil conditions and recommend amendments to improve it, preparing it for planting. Proper soil management ensures healthy plant growth and reduces maintenance costs. We recommend getting your soil tested from USU Extension Service . The addition of organic matter enhances soil structure, promotes robust root systems and creates optimal conditions for vigorous plant growth.
Drought-tolerant landscape design, also known as xeriscaping, is particularly important in Utah due to its arid climate. Our team specializes in creating landscapes that require minimal water. We also integrate how to water your plants so that all of your plants can be low water use and to include more than just cacti and grasses in your landscape. This approach includes using native plants, efficient irrigation methods, and strategic plant placement to reduce water usage and unnecessary water run-off. Xeriscaping, is about more than just selecting drought tolerant plants. It not only conserves water but also saves on maintenance costs, making it an ideal choice for sustainable and affordable landscaping in Utah.

Most consultations take 1 to 2 hours though some can last up to 3 hours. The designer will discuss the scope of work with you when they call to confirm the appointment.
For a full landscape design the initial onsite consultation will take 2 to 3 hours. The designer will come with a base map (aka plot plan) of the property. They will measure the property (elevation changes, hardscape features, verifying property size and lines) and will discuss the current irrigation set up and then will go into the clients desired concept for their landscape.
The designer will sketch out initial ideas on the base map during the initial appointment. From there, the designer will start creating the to-scale plan view. They will then email over the preview of the plan to review prior to the final meeting at the nursery. If any revisions are needed, the designer will adjust the plan and have the final version ready within 1 week.
The full to-scale plan will take between 2-4 weeks to complete.
Within 2 weeks! Schedule your appointment today.
(We even have a few openings available next week)
After your initial consultation…. It really depends on how quickly you are ready to implement the vision!
While some people are ready to go all in, right away, to install their new design, we know that some clients need to take a little time between completed design and implementation. Because most of our customers aren’t ready to implement their design right away, we include a 10% multi-year discount with both our consultation and landscape design services. Your plant discount is good for everything at Glover Nursery, excluding already discounted material and delivery or installation services. And there is no expiration date on the design customer discount.
Implementation of a design is the installation that happens after the design is complete. The length of time it takes to implement a design completely varies from project to project. Some designs are quite simple and can be completed in one day. Others may require an entire landscaping team to grade the yard, install irrigation or hardscaping materials prior to any plants being added. We do have a list of landscapers we recommend to help if your project needs professional assistance with installing larger projects.
Another benefit of having your landscape design done by GN is Once your plant list is available you can email our team and we’ll pull everything for you
If you need assistance with plant delivery we have delivery available as soon as the next business day. We also have installation services for trees and shrubs. We schedule plant installation appointments from Monday to Friday. Mention to your landscape designer that you would also like to schedule plant delivery and installation at your appointment for scheduling and to learn about the additional service cost.
A landscaper is someone who is a skilled gardener. Someone who knows how to plant a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. A landscape designer is someone who knows how all the pieces of your garden work together. They can design the layout of your yard to be pleasing and functional for you for years to come.
It may feel counterintuitive, but working with a landscape designer will save you money in the long haul! Many new homeowners get excited about adding their own flair to their front yards, but unless you have years of gardening experience, you may not know which plants to pick or how to put them together. We love to work on all parts of your yard at Glover Nursery, front yard, back yard, side yard, AND park strips!
A landscape designer will save you money by helping you to pick the plants that are aesthetically pleasing for you. They also will make sure your garden will thrive in your yard because they know how to pick plants for soil conditions specific to the Salt Lake Valley, will accommodate your sunlight conditions and include drought tolerance preferences.
If you’re interested in going DIY, we highly recommend a Landscape Consultation. Planning a full yard is a big undertaking and unless you have many years of experience, you may find the task overwhelming. Save money and time by starting with a landscape consultation.
Your first step is to schedule an appointment with a Glover Nursery landscape designer. Our experts will help you design the landscape of your dreams that you can enjoy for years to come.
Zero-scaping is not a real thing though it is often used when discussing water-wise gardens. It brings to mind the rocks and Cacti of the southwest and, for most homeowners, is not a very appealing aesthetic. Xeriscaping, the correct term, refers to low water use landscapes which include lots of plant material that needs minimal, if any, supplemental water to thrive.
In addition to Zero-scapes and Xeriscapes, there is a category called “Water Efficient” landscapes. This term refers landscape design that significantly reduces water use, eliminates (e.g. not watering the sidewalks and driveways when watering the lawn), but still feels lush and full of life. If you are familiar with Localscapes, this would be akin to their recommendations for Utah landscapes. Being Localscape partners, our design team can assist with creating your Localscape design plan.
