Fresh Cut Christmas Trees at Glover Nursery

At Glover Nursery, our Christmas tree lot in Utah offers a variety of trees to suit every home and holiday style. Whether you’re looking for the classic charm of a fresh-cut tree or the sustainable option of a live, replantable tree, we have you covered.

We offer 5 different Fresh-Cut Christmas Trees. With regular watering, these trees will remain fresh and full of life indoors for weeks, bringing the festive spirit into your home.

So, which tree will you choose to make your holidays extra special this year?

The Noble Fir

Noble firs feature evenly spaced branches with 4-sided needles, much like a spruce. These bluish-green needles are about an inch long and naturally twist upward, exposing the lower surface of the branches, creating plenty of space to hang your favorite ornaments.

The Nordmann Fir

The Nordmann fir have lush, full, rich dark green, glossy foliage with needles a little over 1 inch long, and grow from symmetrically arranged branches. The branches are very strong, perfect for displaying special or heavy ornaments. Their needles are longer and softer than those of other Christmas tree varieties.

The Alpine Fir

Tall and narrow, the Alpine fir has a steeple-like shape, making it a favorite among ornament collectors for its widely spaced branches. Its unique structure gives it a striking, elegant presence in any room.

The Douglas Fir

The Douglas fir is a popular choice, with soft, dark green to blue-green needles that give off a sweet fragrance when crushed. As one of the most popular Christmas trees in the country, it’s easy to see why this classic beauty is a favorite for many homes.

The Grand Fir

The Grand fir showcases glossy needles arranged in two distinct rows, allowing both the upper and lower sides of the branches to be visible. The top of each needle is a rich, dark green, while the undersides reveal two white lines of stomata, adding a touch of contrast and beauty to its overall look.

Choose a Living Christmas Tree in Utah

If you prefer a Live Christmas Tree, you’ll enjoy the added benefit of being able to plant it after the holidays. These trees come with their root ball intact, allowing them to flourish outdoors once the season ends. Just remember, live trees should be kept inside for no more than five days to ensure successful planting.

When selecting your tree, think about its future size. Some conifers can grow up to 50feet tall! Choose a dwarf variety, or a narrow columnar variety, if you have limited space.

Look for a healthy tree with vibrant needles, keep in mind that it is perfectly normal for conifers to drop their needles over fall and winter months.  However, it should only be the interior needles.  If you are looking at a living tree that is losing needles on the ends of the branches, that tree is likely in distress and would not be a good option for a living Christmas tree..

Don’t forget to measure your space. Living trees come with root balls, making them taller and wider than cut trees. For this reason, you will want to choose a living tree that is in a container and not B&B (balled in burlap).  In measuring your space, keep this in mind.  The space under the branches is perfect for tucking in some gifts.

Remember, you’ll need to care for your tree both indoors and out. Keep it cool and moist while inside. After the holidays, gradually reintroduce it to outdoor temperatures before planting.

EXPERT TIP: When choosing a Live Christmas tree you’ll want to dig your hole to plant it before the ground freezes.  Then, after you’ve acclimated it back to winter conditions, you can just pop it in the hole, easy peasy.

With proper care, your living Christmas tree can become a lasting part of your landscape and a visual reminder of the joy you had over the holiday season. It’s a gift that keeps on giving!

Christmas Tree Care and Maintenance

Taking care of your Christmas tree is key to keeping it fresh and beautiful throughout the holiday season. Proper handling, setup, and maintenance will ensure your tree stays vibrant and safe.

Caring for Cut Trees

Water uptake is crucial for cut trees. When you buy your tree with us, we will make a fresh cut on the end of the trunk for you. The tree will need to be place into water within about 40 minutes to prevent the newly cut trunk from sealing over with it’s natural resin.  If you aren’t able to get it into water within that time frame, you will want to make a fresh cut on the trunk before placing it in the tree-stand. This cut reopens the capillaries on the tree which allows the tree to absorb water.

Check the water stand 2-3 times for the first few days, the tree will start taking up water quickly once it is properly warmed to your home environment.  Once that process starts, be sure to fill the stand daily with room-temperature water.

Check the water level every day. A tree can drink up to a gallon of water in 24 hours! If the water drops below the cut, the trunk may seal up, making it harder for the tree to absorb water.

Keep your tree away from heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, and sunny windows. These can dry out the tree faster. Use LED lights, which produce less heat than traditional bulbs.

Safe Transport

When bringing your tree home, protect it from wind damage. Wrap it in a tarp or netting to keep branches intact. If possible, transport the tree inside your vehicle.  When you buy your tree from the Christmas Tree Lot at Glover Nursery, we will wrap it in netting for you to protect the tree and make it easier for you to transport.

For roof transport, place the tree with the cut end facing the front of the car. This reduces wind damage to the branches. Use strong rope, strong twine or bungee cords to secure the tree tightly.  We will help secure the tree to your vehicle using industry grade twine so it will not fall off on your drive home.

Avoid high-speed driving, which can dry out and damage the tree. Take slower roads if possible. Once home, remove the tree promptly and get it into a tree-stand with fresh water to prevent it from drying out.

Installation and Setup

Choose a sturdy stand that fits the diameter of the trunk and is properly sturdy for the height of your tree. If you have a very tall tree, you will want a stand with a wider base to help prevent the tree from tipping over. The water bowl of the stand should hold at least 1 gallon of water to ensure the tree gets enough water each time you add water to the stand.

Place the stand where you will want the tree to stay for your holiday before adding the tree to the stand

Have someone help you position the tree on the stand.  If you buy your tree from us, we have already drilled holes into the base of trees for stands that are designed with a center pole.  If you have another type of stand, be sure to center the tree prior to  tightening any of the supports.  Tighten supports evenly to keep the tree standing straight.

Fill the stand with water immediately after setup.

Trim any branches that interfere with walls or decorations. Always cut from the bottom up to maintain the tree’s natural shape. Remember to turn off tree lights when you’re not home or going to bed for fire safety.
